There are a group of photographers in my area that shoot the setting sun over Lake Ontario often and share their work on social media. I don’t think that there is a more beloved scene than sunsets (except a basket of kittens). As much as I like them myself, my personal taste gravitates more toward your second shot of clouds and wires. This one is exceptionally good.
I think what saves the first photo from being an Oh No Not another Sunset photograph is the lines on the pavement, their verticality playing against the horizontal lines of the sunset. Still, the second photo is more fun.
Thanks Linda for excluding me from the Typical Sunset Photo Club :)
It’s the fascinating array of colors in the sky, playing out against the jumble of silhouetted utility wires and poles, that appeal to me in the first photo. The pavement lines, which I hadn’t paid much attention to, were barely salvageable in post because my exposure was geared towards capturing the sunset and underexposing everything else out of necessity.
I don’t have a problem with sunset photos, if there’s something different about them, and yours has that extra interest (the verticality, like Linda said, and all the wires, and the white line). And I think I remember that road name, too! ;-)

Are sunset photos very popular in your neck of the woods because they’re so rare?
:)
