Don’t want you to go crazy Lynn, but coming up with a clear explanation that isn’t as convoluted as the photo is a challenge in itself. Basically, it’s a figure/ground issue: Picture the pallet leaning against a blue wall which is seen through the horizontal openings in the skid. Everything made of wood is in the foreground. The two circular shapes delineate less weathered parts of the pallet’s topmost boards, and the four small wooden sections, aligned vertically in the middle, are segments of a supportive beam underneath. Any confusion, I think, comes from reading the top three sections as if they belonged to either the blue bands or the horizontal boards, which of course they don’t.
:-) Intellectually I can understand it now, but the funny thing is that my eyes don’t “want” to see it that way. The blue keeps jumping forward! Pesky blue!
Thanks for making the effort, and taking the picture in the first place. I really like the colors and patterns, and assume that’s what got you too.
Good point about the blue. I’ll leave that aspect to the color theorists we were talking about earlier. Meanwhile, have you noticed how squished it’s been getting here lately?
What a great find, Alan! The circular shapes are particularly intriguing.

Thanks Mic. Having taken this photo, it’s still hard for me to look at it and know what’s going on :)

I thought this was a straight shot but with several natural layers. After that I made up my own story. 🙂

But it’s a mash-up, isn’t it? And I really like it – it’s more order and disorder playing together nicely, I think.

Nope, a straight shot, I swear on a stack of floppy disks.

Yikes, I can’t figure it out! And how many times have I said that? What, so I come here to be driven crazy? (Seriously, it’s OK, it’s really OK. :-) )

Follow? Not sure I can do any better than this :)
