Interesting effect…I really like it.

Thanks Mic.
Any “effect” is due mostly to tree trunks that were white with snow — something that rarely happens in these parts. The pair of images at top, and the one beneath, are pretty accurate representations of what the trees looked like against the grey sky. In the last two images, I played around more with levels in Photoshop.

Your description matches what I imagined when I looked at each image…that the level of adjustment increased from the beginning to end of the set of four. You mention a key feature that I hadn’t thought about, that the trees were isolated against the grey sky. The overall “effect” of composition, subject, and processing made a set of photographs that I like a lot!

Nice way of merging the abstract and the, um, so-called real. ;-)

It’s interesting to read your conversation with Mic above, too. When I thought about it I realized, sideways snow! That’s serious. But it did produce a really great look.

Serious indeed but as long as people or houses weren’t being blown sideways, it was somewhat tolerable — and did produce some stunning effects.

I really like the “diptych” on top.

Thanks John. I’ll do this on occasion when I have two similar images that I equally like but but don’t want to post separately for fear of being redundant. The dynamic that comes from pairing them, however, allows each to be shown.
