This is quilting on steroids, and it’s beautiful. #2, #3 and #4 are surely my favorites. The quilters should be very pleased.

The three middle ones are my favorites too.
The layering of images shares a similar sensibility to quilting but produces soft edges and translucency that aren’t possible using fabric blocks.
A fiber artist I met this weekend has solved this quandary by digitally designing graphic patterns that are then assembled into an image that can be printed on either paper or fabric. On paper, it looks a lot like an amazing quilt that’s been photographed but on fabric, she adds machine stitching that gives it the feel of a genuine quilt. (Think I got that right :)
See https://dawnallen.net/art-video/ for a description of her technique by the artist herself.

Thanks for the link….she describes the technique very clearly. But I like your aesthetic WAY better. It’s certainly interesting though, watching a minute or two of the video.

To be fair, it’s like comparing apples to aardvarks. She’s creating an entire image out of the smallest elements that she herself has designed from scratch. It’s something I could never do in a million years.

And she would have a hard time doing what you do – anyone would, if you ask me! :-) But I get what you’re saying.
