Truly disorienting. You handled the composition and lighting beautifully. I’m wondering why they didn’t have a round painting at the top, and is that one actually on a wall, not the ceiling?
Thanks Lynn. Having taken the picture, it’s a bit difficult for me to understand the confusion that others may have when viewing it. Basically I’m standing on the main floor looking directly up at the ceiling where there’s a mural of Springfield. (See if this opposite perspective by another photographer helps: http://www.peterpereira.com/Springfield/#_N8A8838.JPG.)
The staircase is a spiral that has one side sliced off so it’s not a complete circle. Moreover, the ceiling at top is not a dome but flat. I suppose they could have done a round mural there but my guess is that it wouldn’t have worked as well as the existing rectangular one in the available space.
I’m going a little crazy trying to figure this one out, but don’t mind me. It’s a beautiful image in any case. I agree with Lynn about the composition and lighting.
