Wow! I am stunned by the many layers of color, texture, soft and hard, sharp and soft, near and far, natural and artificial, ….the list goes on and on, the many varied kinds of tension and friction and congruence.
Especially in that first image.
You truly have an amazing (and clearly amazed [and amazedly clear!]) eye.
Much pleasure in viewing this.
Funny! Recently I went to an opening day artists’ talk at a small town gallery far from Seattle or Vancouver. It’s a good gallery. The painter in the show was a young woman who’s very accomplished, and does have a BA in art. She talked about her struggle with the concept that it’s OK to paint pretty things. The show was titled, “Some Pretty Paintings.” You know I’m a fan of conceptual and minimal art from the 70’s era, but I appreciate her work and her struggle. http://www.smithandvalleegallery.com/store/c94/Ruthie_V._%7C_Ken_Barnes.html
Ah, the benefits of leaky windows. I have four, myself.

Johnny, if I ever do a book, can you write one of the blurbs?
Your comment is one that makes me go back and look at the images again just to see what you are talking about :)

It would be my great pleasure and honor, sir.
And I too love when a comment makes me re-examine my work with fresh eyes–my favorite kind of comment!

And what’s wrong with pretty, I’d say. These images sure are. Johnny’s right.

Lynn: Are you sure you want to pick a fight with the whole MFA establishment?

Your own work though strikes me as anything but conceptual or minimalist art.
