I like the way you separated out the Maine photos into groups. In this one the black and white are standing out – but that could be because there’s so much color on the others.
Carnivals and amusement parks offer lots of color and excitement but underneath all the fun, I always find an undercurrent of sadness, and concern for the human condition, when I look at the images afterwards. That vaguely ominous feeling you had may be picking up on the same experience.

Thanks Lynn. Each location had a different character and within Old Orchard Beach, there were further distinctions. Hence the separate groups.

Really cool set. My favorite is “Euro Slide” which, for me, has a vaguely ominous feeling.
Very clever the way you cropped the word “entrance” into “trance.”

I’ve even felt that undercurrent of sadness in early Coney Island photographs from over a hundred years ago.

So interesting that these venues give rise to that feeling. Wonder whether any writings exist on the subject.
