Thanks Ken. Hope you’ve returned to consciousness by now :)
That black wall is striking indeed. What appears to be a dark, dull surface becomes much more interesting when the light hits it a certain way (along with a little Photoshop tweaking). I discovered this only while editing my December 28, 2019 post, https://tinyurl.com/yh5bh9b7, and went back again to do it full justice.
I like #1, too, but #2 is my favorite—no, #3—no, #4. Oh, I give up. I had already thought that my next outing might be to downtown Oberlin, and looking at your downtown clinched it. Not that my downtown is anything as rich a hunting ground as yours, or that my skill level is as developed, but I have to give it another try. Thanks for the photos as well as the prompt.
Thanks Linda, happy to hear I gave you a nudge. It’s a real trade-off, isn’t it: A city with many abandoned buildings, vacant lots, and all-too-visible signs of poverty vs. one that’s charming and quite livable as far as I can tell on Google Street View. The former offers many photographic opportunities; the latter, less so.
I like the first one very much, too, and the Ryman. :-) I’m really glad Linda is inspired. You set out the problem well. And where I am, well, it’s kind of in between, without the charm of Oberlin and without the rough spaces of Springfield. Seattle has possibiltiies but it’s a long drive now. Bellingham maybe, but it’s 45 minutes. I’m not complaining though. I will leave the city scapes to you for now.
I like all these, Alan, but the first shot knocks me out.
