These are so inventive! I keep saying to myself that I can’t take photographs now because it’s too cold out. You give that kind of excuse the lie time after time. I will go around my house as if it is the out-of-doors. I will, I will, I will.
Aren’t you in Sarasota now, Linda? If so, you can’t use cold temperatures as an excuse anymore :)
The trick I’ve found in taking photos like this is to start by simply responding to the light and and other compositional elements. It’s only in editing, when I might be disappointed in the abstract nature of the original, that I start exploring other possibilities. As happened in this case, just rotating the image 90 degrees yielded a beautiful horizon line evoking a stormy landscape. The final picture was the last thing I had in mind when snapping the shutter: in fact, the weather outside was quite sunny.
I didn’t go to Sarasota this year. But I shouldn’t really say it’s too cold in Ohio. For many years, I went out in all kinds of weather. I know I’d be fine as soon as I got out the door. It’s getting that far that’s hard; don’t ask me why.

Was very sloppy reading the intro to your December 20 post and just assumed the Sarasota photos were current.
Anyway, thanks for your December 27th mention, and good luck on your new domestic focus. I look forward to seeing what follows.
