Well, I just looked up that cover, which I hadn’t seen – that magazine isn’t exactly a common sight around here. What impresses me the most now is that you added those colors – I had assumed they were already there. That lemony yellow, the soft lavender-blue, and camo green are the perfect choice for this. They have a calming, happy effect on the zippiness.

This photograph started out as an image of the magazine cover being lit by strong horizontal shadows that added another layer of stripes.
It took me a long time to get to what you see here. Most of my rejects looked as if I was just adding a colorful background to Favre’s illustration, and I was afraid that made them un-kosher. In fact, I was very concerned about image appropriation and a copyright violation and considered not posting this at all.
In the end though, I think what I ended up with is perfectly fine for a number of valid reasons.
