This image is light years from where I started. It reminds me of a painting I once saw — maybe of a clown — but I can’t put my finger on it. Any ideas?
No, sorry, but it’s very painterly. There’s something complex in the eye and mouth – like it could be an unhappy moment but it could also be a thoughtful, meditative moment. There’s something very sensitive in the way the ear is rendered, too, and the colors, as wild as they are, don’t interrupt the mood, which is so quiet. Sorry if this is rather incoherent!
For me, it’s the contrast between the bright colors and closed eyes on a lowered head that is the key to understanding the mood I ended up with. The smudged look of the colors also speaks to a once happy occasion that’s taken a bad turn.
Another contribution to the sense of dissociation I see in this image is the clown-like lips that feel more feminine than masculine in their redness and shape.
Yes, that’s it – bright colors but downcast eyes. And I see that about the lips too. I also was noticing the ear – something nice about it – sensitive, alert.
Not your doing, sure, Alan! ;-)
I often import photos to Lightroom (I don’t use PS) and just tell it, “Have at it!”
:-)
A fascinating portrait, Alan – lots of interesting emotions in it. Maybe that came out wrong – I guess any emotions can be interesting.
