Now that the college football bowl season is upon us, I thought I’d share some (mostly) photo illustration work I did this fall. My focus was on the excitement leading up to game-day kickoff at Clemson University: its marching band in rehearsal and pre-game concert; parading cheerleaders; arriving fans; and last but certainly not least, tailgate parties up the wazoo.

Expect to see the requisite school colors—orange and purple—as well as others that were invisible to even me at the time. The role I assumed wasn’t that of a photojournalist or documentary photographer. Rather it was to take advantage of artistic license, sacrificing any stylistic consistency for creative play. Scenes I photographed became mere props in service to, and at the whims of, pixel alchemy. Outsider art took on an altogether different meaning.
