Thanks Lynn, but I can’t say it was much of a find. The faded signs are on a building wall that faces a corner parking lot — a location where I’ve photographed on at least 5 different occasions without pointing my camera up at them, and walked by multiple other times.
Maybe it was the light, maybe it was my own experience with a terminally broken camera, but these relics of another age have been hiding in plain sight for years.
It’s funny how we can pass a spot without ever noticing it, and then one day, everything clicks into place and we see it with fresh eyes.
Absolutely, and I’ve noticed that the way the light falls on old brick buildings especially, can make a big difference in one’s perception of old signs painted on them. It must be the texture of the brick – maybe when the light’s at more of an angle you see the texture, and when the light’s a little flatter you might see what was painted. Just thinking out loud. Not too many of them around here to test a theory on.

You may be right. It was late afternoon when I took these photos and the sun was behind the wall.
